A Section 278 agreement (or S278) is a section of the Highways Act 1980 that allows developers to enter into a legal agreement with a Local Authority (the Highway Authority) to make permanent alterations or improvements to a public highway, as part of a new scheme development and construction process.

ALERON is one of only few HS2 approved Roadworks, Highways and S278 Works contractors. We have gained our accreditations and experience on a number of roadworks enabling schemes, road widenings, traffic improvements and motorway upgrade projects delivered on behalf of the HS2 in the Southern section of HS2 Phase 1.

ALERON help you with Section 278 Works
Work affecting the highway can only begin when all pre-commencement requirements listed in the S278 agreement have been met and approved by the Highway Authority.
As a competent and experienced Roadworks and S278 contractor, we work collaboratively to execute the requirements of Section 278 and Section 38 works within urban and rural environments.
ALERON is responsible for all aspects of the works on the public highway, from the design through to supervising construction and ensuring that the works are completed to your satisfaction.
We work with all named parties to the S278 agreements at an early stage to offer all stakeholders a flexible approach to programming works to suit their requirements and timescales. These works involve liaising with various parties including the client, other contractors, statutory undertakers and affected stakeholders.
